Henry Joseph Porter, 89, of Wellesley Hills and Ashland, Massachusetts passed away from natural causes, Tuesday March 28th, at The Ericson Living retirement community in Catonsville, Maryland.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Henry and Marion (Nichols) Porter and devoted and loving husband, for 61 years, of the late Virginia D. Porter, who passed away in 2011.
He attended The Thompson Academy Farm and Trade School, on Thompson Island in Boston where he worked in the wood shop as well as played every instrument in the School Marching Band. He went on to earn his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University and his MBA from Babson College.
Henry worked as an electrical engineer with Raytheon and RCA Corp eventually retiring from Raytheon. His work included working on the Apollo Lunar Landing Mission.
Henry is survived by four children; H. David Porter of Crofton, MD, Nancy Nichols Acevedo of Wellington, NZ, John Charles Porter of Ashland, MA; and Cameron Nichols Porter of Malden, MA; five grandchildren, Jessica Porter, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Annie Young, New York, NY, George Baily, Wellington, New Zealand, Alexandra Dana, Crofton, MD/Bloomfield Hills, MI, Madison Porter, Crofton, MD/ Bloomfield Hills, MI, and one great-grandchild, Riley Dana, Bloomfield Hills, MI.
A graveside service will be held Saturday April 22, 2017 at 11:00 am at Evergreen Cemetery, 2060 Commonwealth Ave. Brighton, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Henry's name to The Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center
