Obituary

Henry Joseph Gai, Jr., 80, of Holliston passed away suddenly Thursday May 4th. He was the loving husband of Paula A. (Marchio) Gai.  Hank was a graduate of the University of Connecticut, and later received his master's degree from Western New England University.  He began his career at Pratt & Whitney where he was instrumental in the development of the Univac Computer, one of the first computers.  He would later develop one of the first computer systems at Boston University.  He founded International Consulting Services, a computer consulting firm.  Hank was a passionate Red Sox fan and avid golfer; he was a longtime member of Framingham C.C. and Pinecrest C.C. in Holliston.   Since 1999, Hank has been an ambassador at Sugarbush Ski Resort in Vermont where Hank and his family enjoy their vacation home.   Hank was a life master at bridge; in 1962 he and his partner came in second in the National finals.  He enjoyed many bridge tournaments in the New England area.  Hank especially enjoyed being Papa to Elena, Justin and Olivia.

Hank was proud to serve his country as a Lieutenant in the United States Army from 1958 to 1962. He was a longtime member of the Holliston American Legion.

In addition to his wife, Hank is survived by two daughters, Alisa Wade and her husband Matthew of Hopkinton, and Krista Egan and her husband James of Hopkinton, three grandchildren, Elena, Justin, and Olivia Wade, two brothers, Robert Gai and his wife Patricia of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Thomas Gai and his wife Sheila of Billings, MT, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wed. May 10th at 10:00am in St.Matthew's Parish, 103 Southville Road, Southborough, MA. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street, Ashland, MA.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Jimmy Fund - Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168
