Obituary

H. Donnell Hulme Jr, 93, of Ashland, former longtime resident of Hastings, Nebraska passed away Fri. Oct. 10th at home surrounded by his family.  Originally from New England he was born in Lawrence, MA the son of the late Harry and Catherine (Cummings) Hulme and husband to Elizabeth (Norton) Hulme.  They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.  Over the course of 40 years Don's career, originating with Westinghouse corporation, afforded him and his family the opportunity to live and work in several different states around the country, eventually becoming the plant manager of Thermo King transport refrigeration in Hastings, Nebraska.  He was an active member of the Hastings community, serving on the Board of Directors for the Mary Lanning Foundation, working as a coordinator for the Small Business Institute of Central Community College, and as a financial coordinator for TeamMates Mentoring. Don was an avid sports fan who came to love the Nebraska Cornhuskers in addition to his beloved Red Sox. He also enjoyed swinging a golf club, tickling the ivories, and strumming on the old banjo!

Above all else, Don cared first and foremost for his beloved wife Betty, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Don served his country honorably in the US Army from 1955-57.

In addition to his wife of 70 years, he is survived by five children, James Hulme and his wife Suzanne of West Hampton, NY, Catherine Hulme of Ashland, Michael Hulme and his wife Laura of Mound, MN, Patrick Hulme and his longtime partner Ginny of St. Paul, MN, and Ellen Gallivan and her husband Stephen of Holliston, eleven grandchildren, Emily (Peter), Elizabeth (Jesse), Catherine (Rich), Harrison (Rachel), Hannah, Heather (Pete), Samson (Maddie), Emma, Molly, Stephen, and Annie, as well as five great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Libbie, Theo, Margo, and Richie.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.   A kind, patient and gentle soul deeply loved by his family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wed. Oct. 15th at 10:00am in St. Cecilia's Church, 54 Esty St. Ashland, MA with burial to follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.  Visiting hours will be held Tue. from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA.
