Gilbert Nunes, 79, of Ashland passed away Thursday Dec. 10th after battling cancer for over 10 years. He was surrounded by the family he loved. He was the devoted husband of Nancy (Klock) of Framingham for 54 years. Gil was born and raised in Framingham. He graduated from Framingham HS in 1954. He attended and graduated from Northeastern University in 1961. While at Northeastern he was a proud participant in the ROTC program which led to his overseas service in the Army. His career was spent in the corporate world in the import/export control management field. After raising his three children in Framingham, he and his wife Nancy, travelled the world and had a particular fondness for the German countryside and the surrounding European Alps region to which they returned many times with family and friends. Over the years his interests included automobiles, airplanes (airshows), military history, and especially Nancy's cooking. In recent years, he enjoyed actively participating in the lives of his youngest grandchildren, Nevy and Enzo. In addition to his wife; he is survived by his three children; Stephen and his wife Christy of Framingham; Janette (Wikstrom) and her husband Bill of Stewartsville, NJ; and Suzanne of Ashland. He was so proud of all his seven grandchildren; Katie, Nico, Samantha, Megan, Jessica, Nevaeh and Enzo. Calling hours will be from 3:00-5:00 PM on Saturday Dec. 12th followed by a funeral service at 5:00 PM at the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA. A private burial will be at the Edgell Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute via The Jimmy Fund or the Natick VNA (Visiting Nurses Assoc.)
