Obituary

Gary Dischel, loved husband, father, grandfather and longtime resident of Ashland passed away Monday, December 4th, the day following his 50th wedding anniversary to Carolyn.

Gary graduated with a Bachelor of Science from MIT's Engineering and Business Administration program. After serving a tour of duty in the USAF, he received his Master's degree from MIT Sloan School of Management. Gary began his career at Sonesta International Hotels where he rose from project manager to VP of Project Planning.  He founded Knightsbridge Enterprises and discovered his calling as the owner and operator of Grotto Bay Beach Hotel, Bermuda.

Gary was active in the MIT Alumni Association and numerous community and charitable activities including The Metro West Jewish Federation, Big Brother Association and Chairman, Ashland Community Preservation Act Committee. Born in New York in 1935, he moved to Boston to attend college.  He loved New England and naturally became an avid outdoorsman, enjoying skiing in the winter and spending many weekends on his boat "SEALION" with family and friends. Like a proper "Bostonian" he was a dedicated fan of Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox and Bruins.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children; Dana Thyng and her husband Richard of York, ME; J.J. Cornelius MD (USAF) and her husband Scott (USMC) of Hong Kong; and Dan Dischel of Watertown; and three grandchildren; Alana Thyng, and Jake and Max Cornelius.

Services are private.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ashland Ambulance Fund, 70 Cedar St. Ashland, MA  01721
