Obituary

Frederick "Fred" Moore 88, of Ashland, passed away at home June 10th following a period of declining health. He was the husband of Fay (Costello) Moore and they had been married 56 years. Born in Boston, he had lived in Ashland for many years. He served his country during WWII as an aerial gunner with the United States Navy. Upon returning home Fred started the First taxi service in Ashland which is where he met his wife Fay. He was also a lineman for the Boston Edison Company. He joined the Ashland Police Department and became the first police sergeant during his 20+ years of service to the town. Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter, Gail Volpe of Milford; three sons, Martin Moore of North Monmouth, ME, Garry Moore of Freeport, ME and Glenn Moore of Brunswick, ME; one sister, Florence Harrington of NH; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late George, William and Stanley Moore and the father of the late Brian Moore. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, (www.mataresefuneral.com) 325 Main Street in Ashland. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
