Francis (Frank) Leo Saunders, Sr. 90, of Ashland passed away Tuesday March 1st at home surrounded by family. He was the husband of the late Kathleen (Nolan) Saunders who died in November of 2015. They were married for 68 years. Born in Framingham, he lived most of his life in Ashland. Mr. Saunders worked as an Oil Burner Technician for Natick Oil Co. and State Lumber and Oil in Saxonville. He was a supporting member of the Framingham Sharpshooters Drum and Bugle Corp. as well as the Ashland VFW Post 2331 and Ashland Legion Post 77. Frank served his country honorably with the US Marine Corps during WWII in both the Pacific and European Theaters. He was also a fan of the Red Sox and Bruins. He is survived by six children; Frank Saunders and his wife Charlene of Medway; Sherry Hart and her husband Lonnie of Ashland; Kathy Morini and her husband Bobby of Medway; Mary-Jo Saunders of Ayer; Jamie Saunders and his wife Marla of Millbury; and Michael Saunders and his wife Yvette of Clinton; sixteen grandchildren; Jennifer Ricci, Andrea Bailey, Daniel Saunders, Kristine Hart, Kari Rowland, David Morini, Elizabeth Loura, Joe Morini, Jeff Whalen, Melissa Schoemmell, Kyle Banks, Emily Saunders, James Saunders, Erin Saunders, Christopher Saunders, and Matthew Saunders, 10 great-grandchildren, one brother, Robert J. Saunders of Redding, CT, and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday March 7th at 9:00am in St. Cecilia's Parish, 54 Esty St. in Ashland with burial to follow in Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 3:00 - 5:00 PM in the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland.
