Francis J. Gray, 88, of Ashland, formerly of Framingham and Sherborn; passed away, Wednesday, Dec. 28th at the Kathleen Daniels Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. He was the son of the late Clarence and Mildred (Newman) Gray and the husband of Barbara (Gilmore) Gray for 52 years. Born in Natick, he live in Sherborn until his marriage. He graduated from Sawin Academy in 1935 making a reputation for himself on the Sherborn Baseball team. Mr. Gray was a Sergeant in the US Army during WWII and participated in the North African and Italian Campaigns including the allied landings at Anzio. He was employed by Lederle Laboratories, a subsidiary of American Cyanamid, for 35 years, retiring as head of their shipping department in Westwood. Mr. Gray loved his family, was a gifted gardener and a great friend to all who knew him. He was a member of the Hartford St. Presbyterian Church of Natick. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Andrew J. Gray and his wife Mary of Southampton, MA; and Russell F. Gray and his wife Lisa of Marlboro; five grandchildren: Emmaly, Karly, Ryan, Kevin and Jeffry Gray; two brothers: Arthur Gray of Sherborn, and John Gray of Medway; one sister, Jeanette McKay of Plymouth; one sister in law, Marion Gray of Sherborn, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Robert Gray and Evelyn Gray Wentworth. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 7th, at 1:00 PM at the Hartford St. Presbyterian Church, 99 Hartford St. in Natick. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
