Evelyn (Frongillo) Langley, 101, of Framingham passed away Tue. Jan. 3rd surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Israel Langley who died in 1978. Born in Worcester, MA, the oldest of ten children, she was educated in the Worcester Schools and graduated from David Hale Fanning School for Girls.
Mrs. Langley was very active in the Framingham community. She was a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts and was active for over 30 years in the Girl Scouts. In 1942 she joined the Red Cross as a volunteer. As a member of the Framingham Heart Study since 1948, she received a commemorative silver coin and lapel pin on the anniversary of her 50th year. She was also a member of the Framingham Community Chest. Starting in 1964 she served on the Conservation Commission for 6 years, the Town Scholarship Committee, PTA President of Woodrow Wilson School, President of Massachusetts Extension Homemaker Council, President of the Middlesex County Extension Homemaker Council and Chairman of the Blanche Clark Middlesex County Extension Scholarship Committee. In 1980 Mrs. Langley was a delegate on the First Silver-Haired Legislature in Massachusetts. She was Grand Marshall of the Framingham Flag Day Parade in 1991.
A volunteer for 23 years at the Callahan Senior Center, Mrs. Langley served as Manager of the Heritage Gallery. She is also past Chairperson for the Council on Aging, past president of the Friend's of Callahan Senior Center, and past president of AARP - Chapter 3557. She also served as Coordinator of the Perini-McSweeny Homeless Fund. On November 16, 1995 she was honored for her loyal and faithful service to the elderly in Framingham.
Mrs. Langley is survived by four children: Ruthann Budrewicz and her husband Thomas of Boxford; Stephen Langley and his wife Marie of Southboro; Sandra Merloni and her husband Louis of Framingham; and Kathleen Danielsen and her husband Thomas of Richmondville, NY; 11 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday Jan. 6th at 11:00am in St. Tarcisius Church, 562 Waverly St., Framingham with urn burial to follow in St. Stephen's Cemetery in Framingham. One calling hour will be held Friday prior to the Mass from 9:30-10:30 AM at the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethany Healthcare Center, 97 Bethany Rd., Framingham, MA 01702.
