Elizabeth Fleet Schmutz, 93, of Ashland, MA and Marco Island, FL passed away peacefully at home on July 23.

Born in Providence, RI in 1933 to Violet and Charles Fleet, Betty (as she was known to family) grew up in Frederick, MD. A proud graduate of Westhampton College, she moved to NYC to earn a master's degree in library science at Columbia University School of Library Service,  where she met her future husband, Roger Schmutz. They married and spent many years on Long Island, NY; Bailey Island, ME; and Marco Island, FL before settling in Ashland, MA to be closer to family.

Elizabeth found joy in gardening, reading, cooking, animals, and traveling with Roger. She passed her love of books and her sewing skills on to her beloved grandchild, Lyall.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter Anne and her husband, Don Hovey; grandchild, Lyall; and sister, Connie Burger. She is predeceased by her husband, Roger and son, Douglas.

A private graveside service will be held at the family burial plot in Frederick, MD.
