Elizabeth
Kisby
Aug 30, 1925 — Dec 19, 2018
Elizabeth 'Betty' (Gessner) Kisby, age 93, passed away peacefully at the Thomas Upham House Nursing home in Medfield, MA on December 19, 2018. She was the beloved wife of Harry Kisby who passed away in 2008. Betty was born on August 30, 1925 in Berlin, NH and raised in Gorham, NH. She was the youngest of three children of the late Herbert Gessner and Mary Baldwin and was predeceased by her two siblings Edward and Malcom Gessner. At age 13, after the death of her parents, she moved to Massachusetts where she was raised by her aunts and uncles. It was there that Betty entered the New England Conservatory of Music and then studied to be a lab technician and later had a career as a secretary. Betty finished her career as an executive coordinator at the Warren Conference Center in Ashland, retiring in 1990. At a church high school youth group meeting she met her future husband, Harry, and they weathered the years of separation while he served as a sailor in the Pacific during WWII. They married on June 26, 1948 and then moved to Ashland in 1952 to raise their family. Betty was very active in her children's activities, sports, and academics. She enjoyed many years of vacationing in Maine with her family in addition to many trips with her husband in the New England area. Due to Betty's love of the arts, she enjoyed opera, museums, playing the organ, drawing with pastels, and crafts. In her mid-60's, she took classes to make stained glass objects, which she became accomplished and donated her pieces for fund raising events or for gifts to friends and family. Open about her strong Christian faith, Betty was past President of Theta Phi Delta at the Ashland Federated Church and a longstanding member of the Greater Grace Ministries. As a devoted mother, grandmother, and aunt she leaves behind three children, Dr. Lance Kisby and his wife Diane, Dr. Glen Kisby and his wife Donna, and Gail Baker and her husband Albert; four grandchildren Attorney Amy Mullen and her Attorney husband Gerry of Norwood, MA, Natalie Kisby, RN of Brighton, MA, Bryan Kisby and his wife Julie of Raleigh, NC, and Brent Kisby of Austin, TX, and two nieces Dianne Doyle and Deborah Gessner of Arizona and one nephew Herbert Gessner of Bath, ME. The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 27th at 10:00 am in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA with burial to follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 PM in the funeral home. The family would like to convey their deep heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Countryside and the Thomas Upham House Nursing homes for their dedication and great care extended to our mother. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the Salvation Army.
