Obituary

Elizabeth L. (Betty) Dodge, 97, passed away peacefully at home in Ashland on October 25, 2011. A native of Ashland, she had lived here all her life and spent summers at her residence in Hummarock, MA. She was the daughter of the late Irving and Alice (Williams) Dodge. She attended Ashland schools, graduating the Class of 1932. She attended Northfield School for Women and then went on to graduate from the University of Massachusetts, Class of 1937. She also did graduate work at Wheelock College, graduating with the Class of 1938. Ms. Dodge taught kindergarten at the former Applewood School in Framingham for four years. Then she taught first grade in Ashland for four years. In August of 1946 she bought and directed the Little Folk Farm Nursery School in Framingham. In 1956 she bought a new ranch house in Ashland where she opened Little Folk Farm Nursery School. She taught and directed in both schools until June of 1977 when she sold the Framingham school. She continued to teach and direct the school in Ashland until 1987 when she retired. Ms. Dodge was a member of the Rosalie Rebecka Lodge of Medway. During 1944-1945 she was honored by being chosen to travel with the lodge president for the year. She was a member of the Ashland Federated Church and the Theta Phi Delta Women's Group. She is survived by a niece, Jean Slaby of Maryland; a grandniece, Nancy Bonnar-Buckley; a grandnephew, David Bonnar; two great grand nieces and two cousins. She was the sister of the late Barbara Bonnar and brother-in-law, Miles Bonnar and the late Richard Dodge. She was predeceased by her nephew John Bonnar. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday afternoon, October 30th at 2 PM in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street, Ashland. There will be an hour of visitation prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Children's Room, Ashland Public Library, Front Street, Ashland, MA 01721.
