Edward D. Greathead, 50, of Ashland, passed away Monday May 7th after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late John and Rose (Grant) Greathead and husband to Linda (Grace) Smith. They were married three years. Edward was self employed as a carpenter. In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children: Richard A. Smith Jr. of MA; Angela, Tiffany, and Melanie Greathead; all of Virginia; Joseph Greathead of RI; and Michelle (Stevens) Erickson of MA; six brothers; Paul, Jerry, Thomas, William, James, and John Greathead; Walter Grace; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Alice Greathead. A funeral service will be held Friday, May 11th at 10:00am in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. in Ashland. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4:00-7:00 PM in the funeral home.
