Edward John Cavallo, 87, longtime resident of Ashland passed away Tuesday Dec. 19th with his loving wife by his side. Born in Newton, he was the son of the late Anthony and Isabelle (Dwyer) Cavallo and beloved husband of Elizabeth (Wasgatt) Cavallo for 64 years. Edward was a graduate of Newton Trade School and the Peterson School of Steam Engineering. He worked as a facility manager for Genzyme Corp. in Framingham until his retirement in 2006. He was the founding president of the Newton Nautileers – an organization that has helped with the training of numerous area scuba rescue services. In addition, he was active in the Ashland community by helping to start the Ashland T-Ball program and was a member of the Ashland Lions Club. Edward was an avid boater and sailor, often enjoying the waters of Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island. Mr. Cavallo served his country honorably in the Navy from 1956-62.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Barbara Gallant and her husband Rendle of Hampstead, NH, Edward "Ned" Cavallo and his wife Susan of Ashland, Sarah Pinto and her husband Arnold of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Anthony Cavallo and his wife Catherine of Wayland, eight grandchildren, Joshua Gallant, Taryn Cavallo, Adam Dolaher and his wife Andrea, Caroline Dolaher, and Victoria, Anthony, Joseph, and William Cavallo, two sisters, Margaret Yanco and Mary Jane Cavallo S.N.D., and many extended family members. He was the brother of the late James "Sonny" Cavallo and Dorothy Morreale.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday Dec. 28th at 11:00am in St. Cecilia's Church, 54 Esty St. Ashland, MA with burial to follow in Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland. Visiting hours will be held Wed. from 3:00-7:00 PM in the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Salt Pond Coalition, P.O. Box 875, Charlestown, RI 02813 or Save the Bay, 100 Save The Bay Drive, Providence, RI 02905
