Obituary

Edmund A. Weiss, age 96, of Ashland, MA passed away on December 30, 2015.  Born in Boston, MA he was the son of the late Clara M. (Moran) and William R. Weiss.  Edmund (Ed) was a 1942 graduate of Boston College.  He served in World War II as a Radio Officer in the Merchant Marines, making 15 crossings in the North Atlantic to France, England, India, Morocco and South America aboard a C2, 16-knot freighter.  He worked as a transmission engineer for the New England Telephone Company for 33 years.   A longtime amateur (ham) radio operator, Ed  (W1NXC) held an FCC Amateur Radio Extra Class License since 1941 and was the Head Radio Instructor for the Framingham Amateur Radio Association (FARA) for over 30 years.  In his "License in a Weekend" classes he shared his enthusiasm for ham radio with many students.  Ed was predeceased by his twin brother William R. Weiss Jr. and brothers Paul H. Weiss and Donald J. Weiss.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Mary J. (Casella), four daughters Gretchen (Greg) Weiss of Chicago, IL, Heidi (Carl) Silkey of Hubbardston, MA, Marietta (Thomas) Kulp of Sutton, MA and Franziska (John) Lorey of Corning, NY, sister-in-law Mrs. William R. (Elizabeth) Weiss Jr. of Lexington, MA, several cousins, nieces and nephews, and 13 grandchildren – Brendan, Ryan, Conor, Johanna, Evan, Emily, Justin, Kyle, Louisa, Nathan, Greta, Henry and Daniar.   He is a much loved husband, father and grandfather.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday Jan. 6th at 10:00am in St. Matthews Parish, 105 Southville Rd. in Southboro with burial to follow in Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland.  There are no calling hours.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Matarese Funeral Home in Ashland.
