Obituary

Dorothy Mae (White) Carlson, 74, of West Boylston, formerly of Ashland, passed away on Wednesday, November 8th, 2006, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Dorothy leaves her husband of 53 years, David W. Carlson. Born in Iowa, Dorothy was the daughter of the late George and Emma (Rasmussen) White. Dorothy grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and moved to Massachusetts after getting married. David and Dorothy were long-time residents of Ashland. She worked for many years as a Teller and Head Teller at several banks, including the National Bank of Framingham. While her children were in school, Dorothy worked for several years in secretarial positions at the elementary and middle schools in Ashland. Dorothy was devoted to her family, and loved spending time outdoors in the yard or at her cabin in Solon, Maine. She will be deeply missed. Besides her husband Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Dawn Porter and her husband, Scott, of Boylston; her son David G. Carlson and his wife, Concetta, of Worcester; five grandchildren, Sean Wheeler, Alison, Alyssa and Scott Porter, David M. Carlson; two sisters, Betty Trautman and Esther Hanson of Council Bluffs, Iowa; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lee and Carol Carlson of Southboro; and several nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held at Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Matarese Funeral Home (www.mataresefuneral.com) in Ashland. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Massachusetts Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
