Doris L. Buma, 86, of Ashland passed away Friday Jan. 2nd after a period of declining health. Born in Whitinsville, she was the daughter of the late William and Sarah (Staf) Hall and wife of the late Sidney R Buma who died in 2013. Doris grew up in Whitinsville and graduated from Northbridge High School before attending the Worcester School of Business Science. Mrs. Buma worked as Library Director at the Ashland Public Library for 29 years and was responsible for establishing a new children's section and reading room. She enjoyed activities at the Ashland Senior Center and always loved to spend time with her family and her many dear friends. She loved to travel and especially loved the many cruises she took. Mrs. Buma is survived by three children; Kenneth Buma and his wife Francine of Holden; Karen Dobelbower and her husband Fred of Clinton; and Kerry McGuane and her husband Joe of Fitchburg; four grandchildren; Amanda, Matt, Becky, and Marissa; two step-grandchildren; Lisa and Ryan; seven great grandchildren; and two sisters; Dorothy Pemberton of Paxton, and Nancy Frieswyk of Whitinsville. In addition, she leaves behind her special nieces and nephews. We will all miss her so much. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 10th at 10:00am in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. in Ashland. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
