After graduating from Regis College, Donna worked as a Clerk at Suffolk County Superior Court in Boston. Later, she moved into the financial world, working at BayBank, where she met her husband, Wayne McIntosh. Wayne was at the bank attending to a service call when he spotted Donna and thought to himself, "there's a pretty girl, I wonder if she'd like me." The two were married 13 months later. Donna and Wayne had their first son, Scotlund, in December of 1984. They would have their second son, Jaymeson, in November of 1987, and Donna left work to be with her children full-time. A few years later, when the boys were a bit older, she began working in the Ashland School system as a Computer Teacher at the Pittaway and Warren Schools, which later evolved into an IT position at the High School as the boys grew.
Wayne, Scot, and Jaymeson were Donna's entire world. She ensured that the boys had the greatest and most active childhoods possible. She enrolled Scot and Jaymeson into Cub Scouts and later Boy Scouts but in doing so, found a community that she jumped into with both feet. Scouting was a labor of love for her, and she had a passion for teaching kids. She took several leadership positions within packs and troops, volunteering time, effort, and money into growing the program not only in Ashland but also at Camp Resolute, where she taught Arts and Crafts for many summers. Among her many accolades earned with the Boy Scouts, Donna was inducted into the Order of the Arrow and she also received the Silver Beaver Award. The Silver Beaver Award is awarded to adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through their service in Scouting, and is the highest award in Scouting America.
Apart from Scouting, Donna was very involved in the Catholic Church. At St. Cecilia's in Ashland she taught Religious Education for many years and then became the full-time Director of Religious Education after moving on from her positions within the Ashland School System. Donna continued making an impact on other communities outside of Ashland when she left St. Cecilia's to lead the Religious Education Program at St. Linus in Natick, MA. Like each of her other pursuits in life, she engrossed herself in making these programs massive successes that would shape childhoods and create lasting memories for all the families involved. For her efforts, she was awarded the Excellence in Education Award by the Arch Diocese of Boston. Her award ceremony was held at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross where she was given the award by Cardinal Sean Patrick O'Malley.
Later in life, after moving on from her positions with the church, she found herself in a transition period where she spent her time with her very young grand niece, Poppy, and newborn nephew Harry, who would lovingly call her "Aunta." Donna adored children, and particularly loved holding and caring for babies, who instantly quieted and fell asleep in her loving arms. Donna was happy and honored to look after them to provide some relief for her niece Elizabeth and her husband Chris.
When they were younger, Donna and Wayne would take their boys on cross-country road trips every summer, eventually setting foot in the 48 contiguous states. She was happiest doing anything that involved spending time with her family, but the road trips and especially time spent at National Parks were among her favorite activities. As the boys grew older, Wayne and Donna continued their road trips both locally with stay-cations and throughout the country.
Donna was diagnosed with Stage 4 endometrial cancer in 2020, and against all odds, she valiantly battled the disease for 5 years. She did not let cancer define her, and she would not be defined by it. She continued about her life and while it weakened her at times, she kept a strong resolve to spend time with the ones she loved. She attended every dinner, birthday and holiday she could. She made an impact on every doctor, nurse, and medical caregiver she came in contact with. She was more comfortable listening to others than she was talking about herself. Her life was one of service to others and boundless love for her family and friends, and we are all better for having shared it with her.
