Obituary

Donald Eugene Wenzell, 89, of Ashland, passed away, Friday, April 23rd at Oak Knoll Healthcare in Framingham. Born in Framingham, he was the son of the late Eugene and Florence (Rice) Wenzell and husband of 45 years to the late Arlene G. Wenzell until her death in 1987. He married Norma (Barchard) Wenzell in 1991 and they have been married 19 years. Donald was the eldest of three brothers, the late Bernard Wenzell of Framingham and Stanley Wenzell of Ashland. A graduate of Wentworth Institute, Mr. Wenzell worked as a service manager with B&M Fuel Supply in Ashland for many years. He also held positions with Denison early in his career then Fenwal and FilFast Corp. in Holliston and Woonsocket, Rhode Island prior to retirement. Donald served his country honorably with the US Navy during WWII advancing to Machinist Mate Second Class while serving in the Pacific on the USS Sperry and USS Daly. In addition to his second wife Norma, he is survived by three children; Stephen Wenzell of Bantam, CT; Jeffrey Wenzell and his wife Jo-Ann of Broken Arrow, OK; and Karen Wenzell of Ashland; three step children; Dayne Taylor of Uxbridge, Robert Taylor of Ashland and Janice Hutchinson and her husband Mark of Framingham. Donald was the father of the late Janet Klee of Marlborough and step father of the late Bill Taylor of Ashland. Janet's surviving husband Harold Klee Jr. continues to reside in Marlborough. He had nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren and more than fifteen nieces and nephews. Donald enjoyed spending time with family and friends. During retirement he often traveled with friends to play golf in Arizona and South Carolina. He also enjoyed bowling and playing cards at the Ashland Senior Center. Donald and wife Norma could often be found in West Dennis, MA. He and close friend, the late Eddie Wlodyka often went into Boston to see how the Big Dig was progressing. He was a member of the "Party Pals". A funeral service will be held Thursday April 29, 2010 at 10:00am in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. in Ashland with burial to follow in Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland. Calling hours will be held Wednesday April 28,2010 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ashland Emergency Fund, PO Box 112, Ashland, MA 01721.
