Donald A. Henchey, 75, of Ashland passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20th due to complications from multiple myeloma, a blood cancer. Born in Gardner, he was the son of the late Hugh A. and Annette (Couture) Henchey. Don attended Gardner Schools graduating from GHS, Class of 1955. He was a varsity swimmer for all four years. His enthusiasm in a daily swim continued on for many years. From high school Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served honorably. After the military he went to Worcester Junior College and also completed courses at the University evening division. Don worked for many years in Quality Control for High Tech Companies. He and Linda resided in Ashland for 44 years, and was a long time parishoner of Saint Cecilia's Church. In addition to swimming he competed in several marathons, finishing the Boston Marathon twice. He wore his Livestrong bracelet as a reminder to live every day to its fullest. He was an avid Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots fan. Don leaves his wife of fifty years, Linda (Maillet) Henchey of Ashland; one daughter, Mary Anne Milos and her husband Jeff of Oxford; two grandchildren, Michelle and John; three sisters: Joyce Brown of Gardner, Mary Goodwin and her husband Robert of Ashby, Paulette Leblanc and her husband Henry of Safford, AZ; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 26th at 9:00am in St. Cecilia's Church, 54 Esty St., Ashland with burial to follow in Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2:00-4:00 PM at the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. in Ashland. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
