David Edward Hunt, 88, lifelong resident of Ashland passed away Thursday June 8th after a period of declining health. He was the son of the late David J. and Pearl (Dennehy) Hunt and husband of Claire (Bonvini) Hunt for 65 years. A graduate of the Massachusettts College of Pharmacy in 1963, David worked as a pharmacist at Marlborough Hospital for 45 years. In addition, he worked as a chemistry and physics teacher at Ashland High School for over 40 years. A dedicated teacher and mentor, he served the Town of Ashland and its students as Athletic Director, Track and Field coach, Football referee, and Girls Softball coach, winning the Girls Softball State Championship in 1996. He loved to travel across the country with his family from campsite to campsite on summer breaks and in his later years enjoyed wintering in Destin, FL and Pensacola Beach, FL. He was an avid golfer with a hole in one and a round that matched his age at 86 years old.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Tim Hunt and his wife Barbara of Dartmouth, MA, Scott Hunt and his wife Kris of Franklin, MA, five grandchildren, Emily, Korey, Terrason, Alex, and Tyler, one brother, Larry Hunt of Upton, MA, and one sister, Joyce Hunt of Ashland. He was the father of the late David M. Hunt.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday June 20th at 11:00am in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Matarese Funeral Home. Donations in David's name may be made to the Ashland Clocker Club, In Memory of David Hunt, 65 East Union St. Ashland, MA 01721
