David Howard Fabricius, 86 died peacefully and comfortably following a period of declining health on August 19, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at his home of 58 years. He was born in Portland Maine on October 11, 1927 the son of the late Andrew H and Elsie (Jacobs) Fabricius. David was raised in Falmouth Maine on the family farm. He attended Falmouth schools and graduated in the class of 1946. As a young man he served two years in the Navy and following that he was employed by Lund Transportation of Falmouth as a truck driver. In 1953 David left Maine to start his career on the New York, New Haven, and Hartford railroad as a fireman. Over the years David became a railroad engineer and after working 37 years he retired in 1990 from Conrail. David was a member of the UTU Alumni Association local number 0262, Boston MA and James O. Carey Post NO.77 American Legion, Ashland MA. During David's years of retirement he enjoyed his family, traveling across the US and Canada in his motor home, and chasing any train he came upon. David is survived by his devoted wife Beverly (Foster) Fabricius and their three children, Amy Simonetta and her husband Joseph of San Francisco, CA and Upton, MA., Judy Fahey and her husband Kevin of Arlington, VA, Paul Fabricius and his wife Jennifer of Hudson, NH, six grandsons Kyle Simonetta and his wife Haley Kaiser of Oakland CA, Ryan Simonetta of Dorchester, MA, Colin Simonetta of Falmouth, MA, Mackenzie Fahey of Kalamazoo, MI, Keegan Fahey of Auburn Hills, MI, and Tucker Fabricius of Hudson, NH, two step grandchildren Cassidy and Nicholas, one great grandchild Archer Simonetta of Oakland, CA and three nieces and three nephews. Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening August 21st from 5-7Pm at the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street, Ashland. A Funeral service will be celebrated on Friday August 22nd, at 11AM at Christ Lutheran Church, 113 Union Street, Natick MA.
