Obituary

A loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt passed away peacefully on October 3, 2016 at her home in Ashland, MA. Christine Virginia Mary Medley Turner, also known as Chris, Ma, Grammy, Auntie Chris, Aunt Christine, and T, was the fourth child of seven, born in 1933 to the late Walter D. Medley and Virginia C. Medley in Haverhill, MA. Christine was married to the late Robert H. Turner, formerly of West Newton, MA, for nearly 50 years until his death in 2004.

Chris was a loving mother and leaves behind seven children: Lynn S. Turner, Robert Douglas Turner, of Ashland, MA, Lauren L. Turner of Fayetteville, GA, Kevin G. Turner (Brenda) of Northbridge, MA, Randall S. Turner, Drew M. Turner, and Kerry G. Turner (Sandy Joy) of Ashland. Chris leaves nine grandchildren Nicole Turner of Ashland, Janelle Grace of Brooklyn, NY, Joselle Turner of Northbridge, MA, Brita Turner of Amherst, MA, Olivia Turner, George Turner of Ashland, Cimone Grace of Milton, WA, Benjamin Hughes of Coolangatta, Queensland, Australia, and Elizabeth "Betsy" Hughes (Nikki Davis) of Marlborough, MA, who all loved her dearly. She is survived by four brothers, Walter D. Medley, Jr (Ann) of Falls Church, VA, John Jesse Medley (Frances) of Haverhill, MA, Herbert Medley (Margaret Anne) of Portsmouth, NH, and William Warren Medley of Haverhill, MA, and one sister, Julia De Veaux of Haverhill, MA. She was predeceased her brother Gerald C. "Jerry" Medley of Haverhill, MA. Auntie Chris also leaves behind a host of sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Chris grew up in Haverhill and graduated from Haverhill High School in 1952. From her teenage years on, she loved to dance. When she heard a great song, she would move to the music and the expression on her face told you she was really enjoying herself. After high school, she attended secretary school for a year, leaving to marry Robert "Bobby" Turner in 1954. During and after raising her own children, Chris was well-known for caretaking, babysitting dozens of children throughout her life, including her grandchildren. In addition to her domestic work, in the 1970s and 80s she held positions at Zayre's Home Office, Future Electronics, Cramer Electronics, and Samuel Roberts. She was an excellent cook; she always had a delectable meal prepared for whoever showed up for supper or dinner. Her fried chicken was especially renowned, as well as her lasagna, meatloaf, and American chop suey. Every year, Chris planted a garden to grow all kinds of vegetables as well as various types of flowers. She enjoyed crafting and decorative arts, including candle-making, bedazzling t-shirts with her granddaughters, and creating festive centerpieces for special occasions. With an eye for fashion, Chris was always on the lookout for a cute new look. Year after year, even into her final weeks, she spent many breezy summer days in the screen house in the backyard, where she took meals, entertained guests, watched television, talked on the phone, or read. Chris weathered breast cancer for many years but never complained, embodying a lifelong attitude of facing adversity with toughness and quiet resolve.
