Chien S. Lai, 73, of Ashland, formerly of Brockton passed away Friday Aug. 17th after a period of declining health. Born in China, she was a high school teacher in Taiwan before moving to the United States. Chien was the wife of the late Yip W. Lai who died in 1990. Mrs. Lai lived in Brockton before moving to Ashland to live with her son. She was an active member of St. Cecilia's Church in Ashland.

She is survived by two children; Ming Lai-Chann and her husband John of Lynnfield, MA; and Kuang Lai and his wife Mei of Ashland; and four grandchildren; Jessica and Megan Chann; and Isabelle and Branden Lai.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday Aug. 21st at 9:00am in St. Cecilia's Church, 54 Esty St. Ashland. One calling hour will be held Tuesday from 8:00-8:45am prior to the Mass at the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA.
