Cheryl Ann Ault, 42 of Ashland, passed away peacefully on January 19th. She was surrounded by the love of her family and friends while listening to her favorite bands Bob Segar, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd. She was born June 2, 1970 and is the cherished daughter of Rick and Karen Smith of Ashland. Cheryl attended Ashland High School class of 1988. She enjoyed listening to music, visiting Hampton Beach, and spending time with her friends. She was a waitress at the Copper Kettle Restaurant for 4 years. On May 22, 1988 Cheryl was involved in a motor vehicle accident that left her with a severe brain injury, but in true Cheryl fashion over the past 25 years she proved time and time again that she was a fighter. Cheryl is survived by her parents, her brothers Kevin Ault of Peoria, IL.; Ricky Smith of Taunton and his wife Jaime; and sister Sandy (Smith) Thompson of Winterville, NC., and her husband Chris; grandmother Virginia Smith of Ashland and grandfather Francis Mellen of Framingham; aunts and uncles; Kevin and Sandy Mellen, Nancy and Dennis Desiata, Debbie and Kevin Owen, Brad and Katie Mellen, Pam and Bob Dunham, Al and Suzi Smith, Linda and Kenny Winters, Sandy and Charles Loomis, and Bill Smith. She is also survived by several cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her loving grandparents, Barbara Ann and Bob "Boompa" Young, Herbert "Bunny" Smith, and aunt Luanne Miller. Cheryl was adored by her nieces and nephews; Timmy, Taryn, Kaylee, Tyce and Shayne. A funeral service will be held on Friday morning at 10 AM in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street, Ashland. A private burial at Wildwood Cemetery and remembrance gathering in her favorite place, Hampton Beach, will take place at a later date. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4:00-7:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Cheryl's name.
