Charles L. DeAngelis, 88, of Ashland passed away May 1, 2011 at the Veterans' Administration Hospital in West Roxbury. He was the son of the late Ralph DeAngelis and Mary (Poole) and the devoted husband of E. Marie (McGowan). Together Charlie and Marie enjoyed 56 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving and devoted daughters, Claire A. and her husband J. Frank McGurn of Billerica; Jeanne M. and her husband John Wohlgamuth of Powell, Ohio and Beth and her husband Carl Gooch of Framingham. He is also survived by his five cherished grandchildren Dr. Julie M. Brooks, Ph.D. of Columbus, Ohio; Lisa McGurn of Astoria, New York, Dylan McGurn of Billerica, Kayla and Laura Gooch of Framingham and many loving nieces and nephews. As a child growing up in Malden his love of music led him to become active in the Sacred Heart Drum and Bugle Corps and later the Lt. Norman Prince Drum and Bugle Corps and Princemen Chorus. Charlie was inducted into the Massachusetts Drum Corps Hall of Fame in 1997. Charlie served his country honorably during World War II serving in North Africa and Italy with the 88th Infantry Division and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a Charter and Life Member of the Lt. Norman Prince Post of the VFW, Melrose, MA and a Life Member of the Earl W. Harvey Post of the DAV, Natick, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 6, at 9:00 AM, in St. Cecilia's Church, 54 Esty Street, Ashland, Massachusetts, followed by interment in Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland. Calling hours will be held from 4:00-7:0 PM, on Thursday, May 5, at the Matarese Funeral Home 325 Main Street, Ashland.
