ASHLAND- Carolyn O. (Bjork) Stone, 92, passed away on November 28, 2012 after a period of declining health at the family homestead, Stone Manor, surrounded by her family. Born in Framingham, MA on May 18, 1920, she was the daughter of Fred W, and Abbie E. (Norris) Bjork, and the wife of the late Melvin A. Stone, who passed away in 1987. They were married 46 years. A 1938 graduate of Framingham High School, she was employed by Sears Roebucks and the Puritan Laundry in Downtown Framingham. She met her husband in the Catalog Order Department in the Sears Building in Irving Square in Framingham, and they were married in 1941. From 1968-1978, she was employed as a member of the cafeteria staff at Ashland High School. A proud homemaker and baker extraordinaire, she was well known for her decorated cakes and Swedish cooking. She narrated two family cookbooks authored by her son, Jeff, in 2007 and 2009. She was also an accomplished artist of Vermont landscapes and life scenes. A woman of compassion and spirit, she was a friend to all and a caring, dedicated card sender for all occasions. A lover of covered bridges and cardinals, she was a devoted caretaker to the family's Doberman Pinschers, Zeus and Kody. She was a Past President of the Theta Phi Delta Service Club of the Federated Church in Ashland. She was a life member and Chaplain of Olive Branch Chapter, No. 12, Order of the Eastern Star in Ashland and a member of Orient Chapter No. 31, O. E.S. in Framingham. She was a member of the Ashland Women's Club, the Framingham Union Hospital Aid Society and the Doberman Rescue Unlimited Shelter of Sandown, NH. She was a worker for many years at the Theta Phi Delta Thrift Shop in Ashland. She is survived by her children: Barbara L. Hoke of Sterling, MA; Joel L. Stone and his wife, Georgine of Madison, WI, and Jeffrey A. Stone of Ashland; her brother, Norris F. Bjork of Nokomis, FL; her six grandchildren: Holly J. Wheeler of Medway; Judith L. Wheeler of Wilmington, NC; Jon M. A. Wheeler of Sterling; Christopher A. Hoke of Sterling; Lesley A. Stone of Milwaukee, WI and Caleb A. Stone of Dodgeville, WI; seven great-grandchildren: Jarret Wheeler of King George, VA; Nicole Sweet of Gloucester, VA; Melissa Wheeler of Sterling; and Eamonn, Ruairi, Malachy and Fionnula Stone of Dodgeville, WI and three great-great grandchildren: Evan, Mason and Samantha Wheeler of Richmond, VA., as well as several nieces and nephews. She enjoyed and loved all her grandchildren, and, in her final days, held her newest great-great granddaughter, Samantha Carolyn, for the first time. She was pre-deceased by her son Mel Jr., who died in 1946. The Stone family wishes to thank VNA Care Network and Hospice of Southborough and New Century Homecare Services of Natick for their thoughtfulness and excellent care during Carolyn's illness. Visiting hours will be held at the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, on Sunday, December 2nd from 3-6 pm. Funeral services will held on Monday, December 3rd at 11:00 am from the Memorial Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home. Burial will follow from the family plot at Wildwood Cemetery, Ashland.
