Obituary

Betty Jane "Bee Jay" Montenegro, 93 died of natural causes at her residence in Mary Ann Morse Medical Center of Natick, Massachusetts on April 2, 2021. A longtime resident of Ashland, Massachusetts with her husband, Ben Montenegro they brought up their five children there. Ben died in May 2013 at age 89. Betty entered Mary Ann Morse in January 2019 due to her declining health.

Betty Jane Montenegro is a native of Pennsylvania. She trained in the Cadet Nurse Corp Program during World War II locating to Massachusetts as a registered nurse for her war service. Betty met Framingham native, Ben Montenegro after the war. They married in 1950.

Active for her five children in Ashland public school parent volunteer groups, Betty balanced her homemaker role with work at Leonard Morse Hospital as a charge nurse primarily in pediatrics. Her nursing skills extended to the Woodland Road neighborhood where she often cared for the children of the families around her. Betty brought her mother and mother-in-law into the home when their health failed late in their lives. Betty's prominent caring nature is perhaps, the hallmark of her character and her life's contributions to family and friends.

Betty Jane Montenegro leaves a younger sister, Ann Trimmer of Pennsylvania;  a sister-in-law, Marguerite Rohn of New Jersey and a brother-in-law, Lee Palmer of Pennsylvania. Betty is pre-deceased by siblings William Rohn; Catherine Palmer and Margaret Bourett.

Children are Debbie Montenegro and husband, Don Gillespie of Ashland; Ben "Chip" Montenegro of Framingham; Bill Montenegro and wife, Lauren of Upton; Paul Montenegro and wife, Joan of Rhode Island and Pete Montenegro and wife, Maria of Florida.

Grandchildren are Maegan Montenegro, Joseph Montenegro and Michael Montenegro and his wife, McKenna with Great Grandson, Teddy Montenegro.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wed. April 7 th at 9:00am in St. Cecilia's Church, 54 Esty St. Ashland, MA followed by a private burial.  Due to Covid limitations there are no visiting hours.
