Avis W. (Oetman) Jones,81, of Westborough, died M onday, March 5, 2007 at UMass Memorial Hospital after a long period of declining health. She was the wife of Ernest E. Jones for 60 years. Born in Wayland Michigan, Avis was the daughter of the late Arthur and Dena Oetman. She was a graduate of Wayland H igh School, class o f 1943. After graduation she attended school in Indiana prior to leaving for Washington DC. She worked for the US Governmentd during WWII in the Deparfrnent of Defense reading top secret codes for the US Navy. In 1945 she met her husband Eraest who was serving in the Army. They were married n1947. A local Washington DC radio station named them the Ideal Couple of the Week. Soon after they moved to Ashland, M assachusett where they resided for 55 years. Avis worked at Telechron in Ashland for 40 years until her retirement. Avis was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Avis's great passions were attending her grandchildren's sporting events, spending her winters in Florida and gardening. All of those who knew her loved her and she will be greatly missed by all. Besides her husband, she leaves her sons, Frank A. Jones and his wife Donna of Westborough and Ernest E. Jones Jr. and his wife Diane of Grafton; her grandchildren, Gregory, Jillian and Kimberly of Westborough and Keith and Zachary of Grafton. She was also the sister of Florence and husband Louis Miedema of Wayland, Michigan, brother Lawrence Oetman and wife Arlene of Wayland, Michigan, and brother Dave Oetman and wife Arlene of Grand Rapids, Michigan. She leaves many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Beatrice Bredeweg, the late Margaret Frost and the late Carol Whittridge, all from Michigan.
