Obituary

Austin J. Blongastainer 65, of Ashland passed away Monday, June 25th in Wayland after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Helen (Keefe) Blongastainer and they had been married 41 years. Born in Waltham, he was the son of the late Austin J. Blongastainer Sr. and Mrs. Florence (Coutu) Blongastainer of Ashland. He was a graduate of St. Charles High School in Waltham and attended and graduated from Boston College. He was employed with the United States Army Natick Labs- Research and Development Center in Natick. He was involved with the Indian Guides, Cub Scouts and taught CCD at St. Cecilia's Church in Ashland. He was treasurer of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, a member of the St.Cecilia's Church Finance Committee, and a member of the Council on Aging - Ashland Senior Center. Beside his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, David Blongastainer and his wife Jamie of Pheonix, AZ, Brian Blongastainer and his wife Heidi of Franklin; one daughter, Karen Haynes and her husband Edward of Holliston; one sister, Mary Broderick of Southborough; four grandchildren, Rachel, Lucas, Hannah,and Emily and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and godchildren. A funeral Mass will be said on Friday morning at 9:00 AM in St. Cecilia's Church 54 Esty Street in Ashland. Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening from 5-8 PM in the Matarese Funeral Home (www.mataresefuneral.com) 325 Main Street in Ashland. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the St. Vincent DePaul c/o St. Cecilia's Church, 54 Esty Street, Ashland, MA 01721.
