Arthur J. Robie Jr, 86 longtime resident of Ashland passed away peacefully Sunday June 10th surrounded by his children in the home where he and his beloved wife raised their family. He was the husband of the late Jean (Hunt) Robie who passed in April of this year. Arthur worked as the owner and operator of Robie Plastering from 1959 to 1986 before becoming the Assistant Building Inspector for the Town of Ashland for 20 years retiring in 2006.
He was an accomplished artist who enjoyed stained glass, charcoal drawings, carving and sketching. He was a member of a kite club where he often could be found flying kites on Bose Hill in Framingham and on summer vacations at Hampton Beach. He enjoyed bowling and in earlier years competed in a Framingham league and later in life bowled weekly with friends. Arthur enjoyed traveling with family and friends throughout his life. Arthur served his country honorably as a combat veteran in the Korean War.
Arthur was a story teller with a positive zest for life. He had a great sense of humor and freely shared it often. He was a man of integrity, a generous and humble man and always shared that his proudest accomplishment was his family.
He is survived by five daughters; Deborah Pandolfi and her husband Tom of Ashland; Doreen Pace of Milford; Dawn Spiri and her husband Kelly of Milford; Daphne Kovatsi and her husband Stephen of Medway; and Diane Gerrie and her husband Norm of Grafton; two sons; Brian Robie and his wife Donna of Medway; and Keith Robie and his wife Susan of Ashland; 17 beloved grandchildren; Tina, Craig, Jennifer, Scott, Nicholas, Sean, Gina, Cameron, Ryan, Curtis, Travis, Hunter, Stephen, Domenic, Anthony, Austin, and Taylor, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was the brother of the late Mary Mayo, Eva Boiardi, Margaret Mariani, and Eileen Moscatelli. Arthur was very proud of his family. He now rejoins his wife whom he was married to for 65 years.
A funeral service will be held Friday June 15th at 10:00am in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4:00-7:00 PM in the funeral home.
