Angela "Ann"
Bibbo
Feb 6, 1923 — Mar 3, 2018
Angela M. (Ann) Bibbo, 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at her home at Whitcomb House in Milford, surrounded by family and friends. Ann was born on February 6, 1923 in Newton Corner to Antonio and Maria G. (Lantella) Bibbo. After graduating from Newton High School in 1940, she worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance in Boston while attending classes at Burdett College and Vesper George School of Art.
It was her love of the arts and adventure combined with her deep sense of service that led Ann to become a civilian employee of the US Government from 1951-1957 with postings in Alaska, Austria and Italy. "I was born with a restless foot inherited from my [Italian-born] father. Like him, I always wanted to know what was on the other side of a mountain or an ocean."
From 1958-1963, Ann worked with the Corps of Engineers in San Francisco and then transferred to the Foreign Service of the US Department of Agriculture. She served in embassies around the world, including Indonesia, Belgium, Russia, Japan, England, Italy and Romania, until her retirement in 1987. She shared the world's cultures with her family and friends through her wonderful letters, photographs, poetry, treasures given and her visits home.
Ann's foreign travels from orphanages to opera houses fueled her love of children and the arts, which carried over to her retirement in Natick. She loved attending operas and symphonies in Boston and was generous with her time by volunteering at Dana Farber, sponsoring children overseas, becoming a docent at the Danforth Art Museum, and always spending time with her family. Natural beauty, faith and memories came to life in her poetry, her artwork and her unpublished memoirs "From Nome to Rome." In her last months, she was still bringing joy and hope by leading Rosary prayers to the Whitcomb House Dementia Care residents.
Left to remember Ann's beautiful spirit are her sister Lucy Kiley; sisters-in-law Dorothy Bibbo, Mary Ann Bibbo and Enzanetta Bibbo; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Pasquale, Joseph and John and brother-in-law Elmer Kiley.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Sat. March 17th at 9:00am in St. Cecilia's Parish, 54 Esty St. Ashland, MA with urn burial to follow in Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ann's name to Saint Cecilia Parish, Alzheimer's Association, Compasionate Care Hospice of Woburn, or a charity of choice.
