Andrew J. Juhasz, longtime resident of Ashland, MA, died January 29, 2011 at Kathleen Daniels Nursing Home in Framingham, MA. Andrew was born in Vilmany, Hungary Oct. 31, 1911, the son of Andrew J. Juhasz and Mary Roly Juhasz. The family emigrated to Norwalk, CT soon after his birth. In his youth, he was an outstanding athlete, playing semi-professional football and baseball. He was also a professional boxer and wrestler and boxing promoter. As a young man, Andrew was apprenticed into the printing trade and worked for several newspapers in CT and later in MA, where he moved with his wife Madeline Libertino Juhasz and their two young children. In the 1950's, he became a police officer in Ashland, working his way up to police chief in 1971, retiring in 1974. During this time, he created his own printing business in the basement his home, where he and Madeline would raise their four children. He continued to ply his trade as printer until his retirement at the age of 75. He was also president of the Ashland Police Association from 1962-1963; treasurer, president and longtime member of Ashland Fish and Game Club; and member of the Ashland Junior League from 1952-1964. He was also, for a time, the town dog officer. Andrew's success was the result of hard work, dedication and devotion to the town he so loved. He survived his beloved wife Madeline who died Oct. 26, 2008 at the age of 92, after 73 years of marriage. He is survived by his four children, Veronica J. Simulynas and her husband Anthony of Auburn, MA.; Andrew L. Juhasz and his wife Margaret Of Moultonboro, N.H.; Regina Gerber and her husband Neal of Ashland, MA, and Barbara Juhasz of Chico, CA., and eight grand children and twelve great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 4th at 10:00am in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. in Ashland with burial to follow in Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland. One calling hour will be held Friday from 9:00-10:00am prior to the service.
