Amy B
Lingham
Mar 9, 1953 — Aug 24, 2024
Ashland
Amy Burrill Lingham, aged 71, of Ashland, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on August 24, 2024, surrounded by her husband and three daughters, after a five-year battle with Li-Fraumeni Syndrome cancer at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Amy was a true embodiment of authenticity, creativity and warmth, who left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.
Born Amy Lovell Burrill on March 9, 1953, in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Sarah (Sally) P. (2012) and Robert (Bob) M. Burrill (1985), and sister to the late Robert (Barney) M. Burrill Jr. (2014). She is survived by her five sisters: Lizzie, Becky, Jenny, Sarah and Johanna, and sister-in-law Wayan. At the age of six, her family moved to Eastham, MA where she grew up surrounded by eight family members and the dunes of Cape Cod. Exhibiting innate artistic ability and creativity at an early age, Amy took lessons from the late sculptor Joyce Johnson of Truro, MA at just twelve years old. She attended public schools in Orleans and graduated from Nauset Regional High School in 1971. She continued her education with four years at The Museum School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, graduating in 1978, where she learned to make traditional leaded stained-glass.
Amy's professional journey began in Boston's Back Bay, working with an artisan repairing church windows using centuries-old methods. She was a master craftsperson known for her work in stained-glass, jewelry, watercolors, sculptures, and children's costumes. Amy's works, especially the stained-glass windows, fill her own home and those of many homes across the country. The Town of Ashland commissioned Amy to design a window for the town's sesquicentennial (150th) anniversary, which is prominently displayed in the Town Hall.
She imparted beauty and joy not only through her artwork but also through the love she bestowed upon her family. She was a devoted wife, compassionate mother, and doting grandmother. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 43 years, Jeffrey M. Lingham, her daughter Emily M. Lingham with partner Dale Ann Cormier II, her daughter Caroline B. Ostreicher with husband Jonathan S. Ostreicher and their daughter Madelyn P. Ostreicher, and daughter Martha L. Lingham with partner Pawel M. Pawlowski, all of whom cherish her memory.
Amy's home was a hub of creativity where she raised her family, enjoyed gardening, cooking, teaching arts to children, and spending precious moments with her granddaughter Madelyn. She loved dinners and game-nights with friends, exploring museums, and embarking on travels. In her lifetime, Amy dedicated time to various roles that spoke to her nurturing and engaging personality, whether it was at the local bakery, a daycare center, a retail art gallery, or during her 16-year tenure at Starbucks, she brought joy and comfort to those around her. Amy provided a source of inspiration, silliness, and whimsy to all who knew her. She left a vast legacy behind.
A memorial service for Amy B. Lingham will be held on Thursday September 12, 2024 at 1:30 pm at Plymouth Church, 87 Edgell Road in Framingham, MA followed by a reception from 3-5 pm at the Lingham's home in Ashland. Light refreshments will be served.
