Amelia Mcallister
Lopes
May 18, 1938 — May 22, 2026
Holliston
Amelia McAllister (Reddick) Lopes, a devoted mother, wife, sister and grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 22, 2026 at the age of 88, ending her decade long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born in Boston, Massachusetts to Inez and William Reddick, Amelia grew up on Symphony Road in the heart of Boston. She was a 1956 graduate of the Girls Latin School, the first public preparatory school for girls in the United States. Amelia then attended Simmons College where she completed two years of study before marrying her husband, Joel R. Lopes.
Amelia dedicated many years raising her three children in Boston alongside her dear friends, Kathleen, Carol and Joanie. Together, they created cherished memories picnicking at Franklin Park and Scusset Beach with their children before building a home in the suburb of Holliston.
When her children entered high school, Amelia embarked on a career in the banking industry. After a few years working at institutions including Shawmut Bank, she became one of the first branch managers of the Digital Federal Credit Union (DCU) headquartered in Maynard. Originally organized by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), one of the fastest growing computer companies in the world during the 1970's, she was affectionately known as "Amy" by her staff and customers. She was admired for her warm smile combined with exceptional customer care, as she helped establish DEC branches throughout Massachusetts until her retirement in 2002.
Amelia was known by many as quite the "fashionista". Her wardrobe reflected her spirit – vibrant, elegant and full of life. She taught those around her that true style comes from within and that the most beautiful accessory is kindness. Before her illness, she spent her retirement years doting on her grandchildren, and, of course, shopping along the Golden Triangle on Route 9.
Amelia is survived by her children Michelle Miller (Edward) of Ashland; Dr. Joel Lopes Jr. (Antonella Osorio) of Yulee, Florida; and Stephen Lopes of Worcester. "Mimi" also leaves behind two beloved grandchildren, Dr. Sydney Miller of Hartford, Connecticut and Jordan Miller of Boston.
Amelia was predeceased by her husband Joel Richard Lopes; her parents Inez and William Reddick; her sister Veronica (Reddick) Metivier and her dear friends Carol Vieira and Joan O'Bryant.
Our family extends its deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at The Canopy at Azalea Grove in Valdosta, Georgia. Their tireless devotion, warmth and respect brought comfort, dignity and joy to Amelia during her final years.
A private service for immediate family will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Boston.
