Alvin J. Lapina, 89, of Murrieta, California passed away November 20th surrounded by his family. He was born in Framingham, the son of the late Louis and Domenica (Berte) Lapina. Following his graduation from Framingham High School, Alvin enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in Okinawa as a Construction Battalion "Sea Bee" during WWII and later aboard the USS William Mitchell. He earned an honorable discharge after completing over seven years of active duty service. Alvin was employed by the Town of Ashland with the Ashland Police Department and retired after 30 years of service. He resided in Framingham, Ashland, Holliston, and Meredith, NH until 2002 when he moved to California to be near his only child, Lorraine "Rainy" Lapina Perry. Along with his daughter Lorraine, Alvin is survived by his granddaughter Melanie Gatti and three great granddaughters: Brittany Vanbuskirk, Chelsea and Natalie Gatti; and his sister, Florence Lapina Gurliacco. He was preceded in death by his infant twin sons, Ernest and Louis Lapina; his beloved wife, Thelma Hebden Lapina; his sisters, Eunice Lapina Ferrari and Mary Lapina DiCecco. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 5th at 11 AM at St. Matthew's Church, Southborough with burial to follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Ashland. Calling hours will be held at the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street, Ashland on Friday evening from 5-7 PM.
