Biography

Charles L. Philbrick, 82, of Ashland passed away January 3rd after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Kathleen (Smith) Philbrick and the late Jane Pontremoli Philbrick who passed away in 1999. Born in Middletown, CT, he was the son of the late Charles and Esther (Southmayd) Philbrick. A veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict, he served his country honorably for twenty-two years in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1972 as a Tec Sergeant. A resident of Ashland since 1973, Mr. Philbrick worked for the town of Ashland as a supervisor in the water department. He previously worked for Bekins Moving and Storage. Mr. Philbrick was a life member of The Air Force Sergeants Association, The Veterans of the Foreign Wars, The VFW National Home, The Retired Enlisted Association and a member of District 4 Past Commanders Club (VFW).

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, and is the father of the late Ronald E Philbrick and the father-in-law of Margarita Philbrick of Ashland. He is survived by three sons: Richard J. Philbrick and his wife Cami of Marlborough, Gerald T. Philbrick and his wife Tracey of Northbridge, and Joseph C. Philbrick and his wife Lisa of Gardner. He is also survived by one brother, Michael Philbrick and his wife Wanda of Sydney, ME; two sisters-in-law, Darlene Burrows and her husband Lenny and Susan Pontremoli, both of Ashland; a brother-in-law Peter Dolliver of Framingham; his grandchildren, Rebecca Philbrick, Ronald Philbrick, Jr., Caitlyn Philbrick, Joanna Philbrick, Lauren Philbrick, Kathryn Philbrick, Nichole Philbrick, Courteney Philbrick, Robert Philbrick, Francesca Stanton Philbrick, Stephanie Philbrick, Aimee Philbrick, and Aidan Philbrick; seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving him are his step-children, Stephanie Neely of Sunset, South Carolina, Kevin Wanta of Mesa, Arizona and Brett Wanta of St. Paul, MN.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday morning at 11 AM in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street, Ashland with interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Ashland. Calling hours will be held Monday from 5:00-7:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ashland Emergency Fund, PO Box 112, Ashland, MA 01721.
