Henry W Gurney

March 23, 1925 - February 3, 2010

Henry W. Gurney, 84, of Ashland died peacefully on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at MetroWest Medical Center surrounded by his family. Henry was born in Natick, MA on March 23, 1925, son of the late Harold and Martha (Cavanaugh) Gurney. Henry was a resident of Ashland for the last 55 years. Mr. Gurney retired from the New Haven Railroad in 1975 after 33 years of service as a car inspector.

In addition to his wife, Margaret M. (Ronan) Gurney, he leaves four children: Patricia Gurney Thibault and her husband, Thomas E. Thibault of Raleigh, NC; Henry W. Gurney, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA; James M. Gurney of Douglas, MA; and David F.Gurney of Barre, MA; five grandchildren: James and Jonathan Thibault of Raleigh, NC; Matthew, Dylan and Maggie Gurney of Douglas, MA; one brother, Harold L. Gurney and his wife Dolly of Natick, MA and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Francis Gurney, Jane DiGiacomoantonio and William Gurney.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, Feb. 8th from 5-7 PM at the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street, Ashland (www.mataresefuneral.com). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, 9AM at St. Cecilia’s Church, Ashland. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Ashland. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to The Catholic TV Mass, P.O.Box 9196, Watertown, MA 02471.
